back when i was in college
i got to go to a college broadcasting convention
one of the discussion panels that weekend
was devoted to trying to figure out
what alternative was exactly
after two hours of arguing
everyone still had no idea what alternative was

it seemed undefineable
yet everyone knew it when they heard it.

in 1992, that changed
alternative suddenly meant flannel and no future.
madison avenue loved that for some reason
and latched onto it
suddenly, pop is alternative
and alternative is pop

now there's no difference.

alternative isn't.

anymore.
